Military Science Minor

The military science minor is designed for students who are interested in serving as officers in the U.S. Army.  The curriculum provides a practical understanding of the concepts and principles of military science and aids in developing a strong sense of duty, honor, country, and citizenship. Our program promotes individual fitness as well as teamwork and provides numerous leadership learning opportunities. Students will also gain an understanding of and appreciation for international relations and national security.

Requirements for a Minor in Military Science


The Minor in Military Science is designed for students in the Army ROTC program and requires the completion of the following courses: MSCI 111 MSCI 112 MSCI 211 MSCI 212 MSCI 311 MSCI 312 MSCI 411 MSCI 412 , and HIST 310  (or MSCI 310). Total: 21 credit hours.

The  MSCI 111, 112, 211, and 212 requirement may also be satisfied by either completing 4 years high school JROTC, attending Basic Camp, or completing military basic training.  Final transfer equivalency credit is subject to approval through the university registrar.

Note: Students are required to be officially contracted in Army ROTC prior to enrolling in MSCI 311 (Advanced Course / junior level) and be willing to accept a commission as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army upon graduation. Attending Army ROTC Advanced Camp at Fort Knox, KY is a commissioning requirement.  This training event is currently listed as MSCI 321  and may be added to the student’s transcript if desired for additional elective credit.
