NOTE –Adult & Online Education programs are offered at three physical locations and online. Candidates for admission to one of Campbell University’s AOE campuses (Raleigh Campus, Fort Bragg & Pope Campus, Camp Lejeune Campus, CU Online Campus) should contact the location they wish to attend.
Policies for Main Campus Students enrolling in courses offered by Adult & Online Education
Main campus students may, depending on availability and certain criteria, enroll in courses at Campbell’s Adult & Online Education campuses. The following conditions apply:
- The requested course will not be available on the main campus during the semester in which the extended program/online course is requested. Furthermore, the student must demonstrate that the requested course is necessary for a timely graduation.
- For 100% online courses, an Online Education course approval form must be completed, including all approval signatures from the applicable main campus members. - For seated courses at the AOE extended campuses, a course approval form must be completed, including all approval signatures from the applicable main campus members. - A main campus student may enroll for no more than three (3) courses per semester at the AOE campuses.
- If a student enrolls for nine (9) or more credit hours on main campus and additional credit hours through AOE sites or Online Education during a semester such that he/she is registered for at least 12 hours, the student is considered a full time, main campus student and must pay the full time main campus student tuition and applicable fees. Students should contact the business office for tuition details during Summer sessions.
- The maximum number of combined hours from all campuses during any semester may not exceed 18.5 hours.
- International students must obtain permission from the office of International Admissions prior to enrolling for any courses at the Extended Program campus sites or Online Education. International students residing in the United States per federal law are limited to one online course per semester.
- Cumulative: Students may take no more than 49% of the semester credit hours for the degree online. This means that for the associate degree requiring 62 semester hours, no more than 30 semester hours can be completed online. For the bachelor’s degree requiring 124 semester hours, no more than 60 semester hours can be completed online. These limits of 30 and 60 are the maximum allowable hours of online courses, taking into account core curriculum and majors hours combined.
- Core Curriculum: A full range of general education core courses may be made available and taken through online courses, as long as the maximum allowance of 49% for each student degree is not violated.
- Transfer Students: Regardless of the number of hours accepted in transfer, students will not be allowed to complete through online more than 49% of their semester hours taken with Campbell.
Policies for Students at Traditional Campuses Taking Courses Offered Through Online Education in Adult & Online Education
In accord with the definition of the Commission on Colleges, the University defines online education as a formal educational process in which the majority of the instruction (interaction between students and instructors and among students) in a course occurs when students and instructors are not in the same place. Instruction may be synchronous or asynchronous. An online course may employ correspondence study, or audio, video, or computer technologies. Any course in which more than 49% of the course is offered with the instructor and the student not in the same place shall be clearly identified as an online education offering. These courses are offered as online courses through the University’s Department of Online Education and Campbell University Online.
The University is approved by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to offer online courses and programs.
All of the University’s online offerings are to be channeled through the University’s Department of Online Education. The role of the Department of Online Education is to provide training and administrative oversight to the range of matters required for online education. To be offered, all online courses must have approval of the appropriate deans.
Policies for Adult & Online Education Students Enrolling in Courses Offered on Main Campus
Adult & Online Education students requesting permission to enroll for courses at Campbell University’s Main Campus should be advised of the following University policies and procedures:
- Adult & Online students who wish to take all their courses at the Main Campus should be referred to the Admissions office on Main Campus where they will be processed for admission to Main Campus and registered for classes.
- Adult & Online students who wish to take less than a full semester load at Main Campus must obtain their adviser and director’s approval applied under the following conditions:
- The courses are required for a timely graduation
- The courses are not available during the semester at the home campus
- The academic adviser:
- must check to ensure a seat in the course(s) is available
- must send an electronic copy of the approval form to the Registrar’s office to register students for the desired course(s)
- must ensure the student knows the schedule and location of the classroom(s) for the courses and how to obtain a parking decal
- advise students to seek assistance from the office of Adult & Online Education if needed
- ensure the student understands the requirements to confirm their Main Campus course schedule on Student Planning, normally one week prior to the start of the semester
- The maximum number of combined hours from all campuses during any semester may not exceed 18.5
- If a student enrolls for six (6) or more semester hours on Main Campus and additional semester hours through the extended campus sites or Adult Online Education during a semester such that (s)he is registered for at least 12 hours, the student is considered a full time, Main Campus student and must pay the full time Main Campus student tuition and applicable fees.
- If a student is using VA Benefits, the VA Adviser from the campus must complete and sign the Registration and Approval for Main Campus Courses form and send to the university Director of Veterans Affairs to insure the veteran student is certified as a visiting student.
Policies for Students Enrolled in AOE Online Programs
Online students may be able to take face-to-face courses at Adult and Online Education locations. Students are responsible for obtaining base access where applicable and must check with the campus they wish to attend to see if there are any base rules or regulations governing which courses they can take.
Online students may take face-to-face courses at the Main Campbell campus according to the policies described above, which apply to all Adult & Online Students.
Online Education Attendance/Course Participation Policy
Campbell University believes that students must attend class in order to attain the course learning outcomes. The University attendance policy found in the Undergraduate Studies Bulletin requires students to attend at least 80% of the classes held in order to receive academic credit for a course.
The expectation for students in online courses is no different in this regard than for traditional courses. Although with a different delivery mode and different definition of participation, the same class attendance/course participation expectations hold for online courses.
Student attendance in online and applicable blended courses is defined as active and consistent participation in the course as described in the individual course syllabus. Online and blended courses will, at a minimum, have weekly requirements for student participation which can be documented by any or all of the following methods:
- Completion of tests
- Submission/completion of assignments as specified by the professor/instructor
Students in online or blended courses must log in to their course(s) no later than the last day of the published add/drop period for the session in order to verify their enrollment. Students who do not log in to their course(s) by the end of the add/drop period will be withdrawn from the course(s); however, the student may remain financially responsible for the cost of the course(s). In addition, faculty will require course participation prior to the official drop date
