Degree Requirements

In addition to the requirements of the academic major, students must comply with the General Academic Regulations for Graduation and Undergraduate Academic Policies . As part of these policies, students must complete the General College Curriculum , which is based on the degree.

Major Requirements

A major in Biochemistry may be obtained which follows specific guidelines for entering postbaccalaureate studies in medical school programs. Students following this track in Biochemistry must complete the following coursework with a grade of “C” or higher in all science courses (biology, chemistry, and physics).

Biology Requirements

Take 32 - 36 semester hours including:

BIOL 111 - Basic Biology (4)
BIOL 201 - Cellular & Molecular Biology (4)
Take:
BIOL 221 - Essentials of Human Anatomy and Physiology (4)
or
BIOL 285 - Human Anatomy and Physiology I (4) and
BIOL 286 - Human Anatomy and Physiology II (4)
BIOL 334 - Microbiology and Immunology (4)
BIOL 342 - Genetics (4)
BIOL 430 - Biochemistry (4)
BIOL 508 - Molecular Techniques (4) - BIOL 508 is offered in the summer only.

Recommended courses in the social sciences include a minimum of six credit hours in Psychology or Sociology. Students should tailor any additional electives to meet the requirements of the program to which they are seeking admission in consultation with their academic advisor. The pre-medical track requires students to earn a grade of “C” or higher in all science courses (biology, chemistry, and physics).
