A major in chemistry that prepares students to enter medical school or other professional programs in healthcare fields.
- Chemistry elective options: Any CHEM course 300 level or higher

Chemistry, Physics, and the General College Curriculum
Students may use chemistry or physics lab courses (four semester hours each) to fulfill four to eight semester hours of the general college science requirement. CHEM 101 and PHYS 231 are suggested for non – science majors. (See General College Curriculum requirements for details.) Major Requirements
Major Requirements: A major in Chemistry may be obtained which follows specific guidelines for entering postbaccalaureate studies in medical school programs. Students following this track in Chemistry must complete the following coursework with a grade of “C” or higher in all science courses (biology, chemistry, and physics): Pre-Med & Chemistry Elective Requirements
Students must take a minimum of 7 credit hours of pre-med and upper-level chemistry courses selected from the lists below. A minimum of 3 credit hours from this requirement must come from the premed elective list. Physics Requirements

- Students in this track are strongly encouraged but not required to take SOCI 225 Principles of Sociology and PSYC 222 General Psychology as GCC Humanities and Social Science Electives.
- Students should tailor any additional electives to meet the requirements of the program to which they are seeking admission in consultation with their academic advisor
- The MCAT should be taken at the end of Junior year for students planning to apply to attend medical school immediately after graduation. The following courses meet AAMC recommendations for courses to take prior
to taking the MCAT: BIOL 111 , BIOL 201 , BIOL 430 , CHEM 111 , CHEM 113 , CHEM 227 , CHEM 228 , PHYS 251 , PHYS 252 , PSYC 222 , SOCI 225 - Courses numbered above 300 may be offered only in alternate years.
