Biochemistry, Pre-Med Track, B.S. (CIP 26.0202/51.1102)


Degree Requirements


In addition to the requirements of the academic major, students must comply with the General Academic Regulations for Graduation  and Undergraduate Academic Policies .  As part of these policies, students must complete the General College Curriculum , which is based on the degree.

Major Requirements


A major in Biochemistry may be obtained which follows specific guidelines for entering postbaccalaureate studies in medical school programs.  Students following this track in Biochemistry must complete the following coursework with a grade of “C” or higher in all science courses (biology, chemistry, and physics).

Recommended Biochemistry Electives


At least 2 credit hours must be chosen from the following list of recommended biochemistry electives. Note: Either BIOL 205  or CHEM 220  can be counted as an elective, but not both.

Additional Requirements


Recommended courses in the social sciences include a minimum of six credit hours in Psychology or Sociology. Students should tailor any additional electives to meet the requirements of the program to which they are seeking admission in consultation with their academic advisor. The pre-medical track requires students to earn a grade of “C” or higher in all science courses (biology, chemistry, and physics).
